one / 5 … Thai Food Self Sufficiency Project:

In order to be food self-sufficient we carry out mushroom, fish, duck and chicken farming as well as major rice cultivation projects. This land is also where our two home are located. We rent land at a cost of US$140/month or US$1680/year (NZ$275/month or NZ$3300/year). It would be wonderful if you could help us to cover this annual cost.

two / 5 … High School Costs for Nepali Girls

Our fifteen girls attend a fairly high quality high school. The total cost for all of the girls is US$380/month or US $4500/year (NZ$760/month or NZ$9100/year). This is equivalent to US$25/month per child (NZ$50).
Would you consider all of these costs? Or maybe cover the yearly cost for one of the girls?

three / 5 …. Thai Lunches:

Forty-five kids need lunch each school day. With forty school weeks per school year this amounts to US$4500 or US$375/month (NZ$9000 or NZ$750/month). This too is a very tangible contribution that you could make.

four / 5 … Nepal Tertiary Study Scholarship Fund

We have seven young people about to commence tertiary study. It costs around
US$1500/person/year for a three year degree (NZ$3000). A total of US$4,500 for a three year degree.
In Nepal there is not the means to borrow government money at low interest rates to pay for one’s education. Hence university education is a privilege for the middle class. Our young people, great as they are, will be barred from this level of study unless we sacrifice in this regard.
In order to gain a scholarship there are some quite strong criteria in place including the stipulation that he/she must pay back a portion of the scholarship so that others may use these funds and that once they have graduated they must return back to help their own people.
For all seven kids we require a total amount of US$10,5000/year or US$875/month. (NZ$21,000/year or NZ$1750).

five / 5 … Rice Costs in Burma

Our eight Shan girls consume US$190 of rice per month (NZ$375).
While our seventeen Yangon boys consume US$375 per month (NZ$750).
This is a combined monthly total of US$565 or US$125/week (NZ$1125 and NZ$250 resp.).         Once again, this is a very tangible project that definitely needs your support.

TESTIMONY: Recently one of our supporters, a property-developer businessman from New Zealand, came to observe our work firsthand. These were his impressions:

“I invested two weeks to travel to Asia to see what Empower Asia was all about. I saw 6 homes in 3 countries …. The kids are fantastic. They are so polite and friendly. They are so happy regardless of what they own … I went because I wanted to see that my money and the money that I have asked others to give was being utilised efficiently and effectively. I’ve come home feeling 100% assured that it is. I have been involved with very large aid organisations that also do good work, but Empower Asia is great because it runs so efficiently, not having a large costly infrastructure, and because it utilizes quality indigenous people…. Empower Asia has a formula that works and it’s helping so many kids. But this could be the tip of the ice berg if we can raise more money.”

If we had all of the funding required then we would tell you and thereby not request further funding. Right now, however, we desperately require more funding to grow the ministry on. Our success necessitates us requesting more funding. We have more kids wanting to live with us and we have a queue of young people soon to be entering the comparatively expensive field of tertiary education.

From coop … to cull … to consume.

Wherever possible we endeavour to be financially self supporting within our country of operation. For example, in the three pictures illustrated above, all of our food in Thailand is completely self-sustaining including the wages of our agricultural workers.

We ask for funds only when we truly require them.
